About Robert

Growing up in seashore and country settings and an early expertise in professional taxidermy gave rise to a fascination with wildlife that has taken the artist from the low-lying sweep of the Florida Everglades to the rugged mountains of Alaska for first-hand studies of his subjects in their natural habitats. He has also sketched and painted on-site from the seacoast of Maine to the forests of the White Mountains in New Hampshire, Vermont, Montana, Wyoming and Ontario, Canada. His wildlife paintings have won acclaim in numerous shows, including one- and two-person shows, in Massachusetts, and in 1986 he received the painting award from the Attleboro Museum in Massachusetts. He was juried into the Academic Society in Springfield, Massachusetts. He studied painting under the noted and award-winning New England artist A. William Bureau, and later attended the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where after a year of studies he left to pursue a more fine art avenue. Besides landscapes and seascapes of his native New England, Bird also occasionally paints wildlife scenes. Painting primarily in oils, he prefers to work on location in order to capture the feeling of the locale for the on-site inspiration where he also can better interpret color and light. Artist is a member of the Academic Artists Association, Enfield, Conn, and also member of the Bryan Memorial Gallery, Jeffersonville, Vermont.
